About

The Empower U Education Program (Marg Gilmour Learning Centre is an Education & Community Partnership Program) aims to give students the knowledge and skills they need to become independent, empowered, and confident community members. We want students to feel prepared for their challenges and believe that teaching them these skills is essential.

Working in partnership with Elliot Lake Secondary School, the program provides critical support to meet the needs of students who cannot attend mainstream school due to persistent mental health challenges, addictions and substance use, legal concerns or at risk of conflicting with the law.

This partnership works with ELSS leading the education component, and the Counselling Centre of East Algoma, holding daily group education sessions.
